India has a large number of electric power generation plants all over the country. They include solar, hydro and nuclear power plants to generate electricity for domestic, commercial and industrial use. However, the demand for electricity exceeds supply. Therefore, agriculturists, industrialists, commercial establishments and residential complexes look up to install generators to meet the shortfall in power.
While satisfying the power consumption needs of the Indian population, the generators cause environmental and noise pollution. The government has a responsibility to ensure that genset users do not do irreparable damage to the environment. Hence, they have come up with specific norms and rules that stipulate the permissible noise and emission levels of different generators used all over the country.
