Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Anna International Airport, Chennai Customs, seized gold worth Rs. 22.1 lakh on Thursday. Two cases of gold smuggling were detected.
Officials intercepted Mahalingam, 61, of Thanjavur who arrived from Dubai and when his bags were examined, found four spoon stands made of steel and wood and four old fashioned steel razors.
When the team dismantled the spoon stands, 112 gold wires were found concealed inside the hollow steel pipes of the spoon holders.
