In a bid to move towards sustainable energy sources, Tiruchi City corporation has called for tenders to install a 2.4 MW solar plant at the sewage treatment plant (STP) Panchappur, located along the Madurai highway.
A Chennai-based private company will be executing the ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) project before this year-end, said N. Ravichandran, City Corporation Commissioner. “Currently, the land is being cleared. Soon, the company will draw up a plan and feasibility report and present it to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) for approval,” the Commissioner said.
The solar power plant, along with a plan to install rooftop solar panels on all corporation buildings is being initiated as part of the Smart City project.
