India’s ability to deploy automatic train collision avoidance systems – Kavach – is expected to get a fillip with global companies getting approvals to install it on the national transporter. Germany’s Siemens and Japan’s Kyosan are the two new approved Kavach deployment companies. Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Kavach deployment will increase to 5000 kilometres (kms) per annum in financial year 2025-26, up from 1500 kms annually right now.
