NEW DELHI: The price of petrol rose 90% and diesel 96% during the tenure of Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government against 33% and 74%, respectively, in the nine years of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance dispensation.
Petrol price in Delhi, considered a reference for government calculations, increased from Rs 37.99 a litre to Rs 72.26 and diesel from Rs 28.22 to Rs 55.49 between 2005 and 2014, minister of state for petroleum Rameshwar Teli told the Rajya Sabha in reply to a question by BJP’s Sushil Modi.
In contrast, according to the reply, petrol price increased from Rs 72.26 per litre to Rs 96.72 and diesel from Rs 55.49 to Rs 89.62 between 2014 and 2023.
