CHENNAI: State BJP president K Annamalai on Monday said petrol and diesel prices would fall once fuel is included in the goods and services tax (GST) regime as it would do away with surcharge and cess.
“Once petrol and diesel comes under the GST, there will be no need for the Centre to levy cess on fuel,” said Annamalai and added that the Centre was firm on its stand that fuel should be under the highest slab of 28%.
However, the DMK had changed its stand after it was voted to power, he said, adding, “When it was an opposition party, the DMK demanded that the Centre include petrol and diesel under the GST regime.”
