Foundries, numbering more than 500 in Coimbatore, have six pilot projects sanctioned for them under the GEF-UNIDO-BEE project to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy in select MSME clusters in the country.
S. Kuppusamy, president of COINDIA, which is the cluster partner here for the energy efficiency project, says an energy management cell was established to support the industry in energy conservation initiatives. Since 2017, the cell has completed 20 energy audits and five air audits in foundries.
There is scope to register 15 % to 20 % conservation based on the recommendations of the audits. The industries are provided suggestions on areas they need to work on to reduce power consumption.
