BENGALURU: To promote the use of National Common Mobility Cards (NCMCs), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has decided to discourage the sale of its contactless smartcards.
From August 21, RuPay NCMCs will be available for purchase at stations throughout Namma Metro’s operational hours, whereas contactless smartcards will be sold in only two time slots – 8am to 11am and 5pm to 8pm.
BMRCL maintained that buying an NCMC has more benefits than a contactless smartcard, which is a closed-loop card, and hence, can be used for only Metro travel. “RuPay National Common Mobility Card, which is open loop in line with One Nation One Card, is interoperable across all transport systems in the country.
