KOLKATA: Scores of passengers boarding flights from Kolkata airport on Monday evening were stranded at checkin counters as the system for issuing boarding pass and tickets for baggage had conked out.
The technical glitch not only slowed down the checkin process but also delayed the departing flights by 25 minutes to two hours. Besides, the Flight Information Display System and CCTV cameras in the airport building shut down automatically, posing a security threat till late in the night.
However, the technical snag did not affect the arriving flights that landed at the airport on time. Between 5.20pm and 8.30pm, there were 30 scheduled departures and 37 arrivals. The problem started at the SpiceJet counters around 5.10pm when the hand-held scanner failed to read the barcode printed on a baggage ticket. The IndiGo counters also encountered the same problem around the same time. The entire system soon went for a toss, bringing the check-in process to a halt.
