PATIALA: FICCI Power Committee has sought government’s urgent intervention & support for the installation of Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) in operational IPPs & CPPs.
In a letter to P K Sinha, Principal Advisor Prime Minister Office (PMO), Government of India, Vipul Tuli, chairman, FICCI Power Committee has south govt attention towards arising critical situation regarding ministry of environment, forest & climate change (MoEF&CC) notification S.O. 3305(E) dated December 7, 2015, wherein thermal power plants are required to meet new emission standards for Sulphur Dioxide (SOx) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx).
In this regard, the deadline to meet these norms are different for different power plants but all plants are supposed to comply with them by December 2022. In the case of Captive Power Plants (CPPs), the deadline was June 30, 2020, and hence require immediate relief, asserted Committee in the letter.
The letter further stated that it is pertinent to note that about 30-month are required to achieve commissioning of FGD aGer having regulatory and financing clarity. The data compiled by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for all the power plants, Central, State, and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) shows that most of the plants would not be able to meet the deadline despite advance efforts having been taken by many, if not most of them.
