Members of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee on Monday organised a protest outside the office of the PSPCL Chief Engineer in support of their demands. Their major demand is reduction in power tariff.
A leader, Sarwan Singh Pandher, while addressing the protesters, said the PSPCL had increased power tariff 12 times in two-and-a-half year, which is unjustified.
The protesters demanded scrapping of the 2003 Act for revival of the Punjab State Electricity Board. They demanded power at Re 1 per unit to every consumer, abrogation of all agreements with private firms for power generation, regular hiring of staff besides ensuring 16-hour power supply to farmers. They also demanded free electricity to farmers up to 200 units.
