To improve efficiency of coal based thermal power plants, the government is implementing a plan to replace them with super critical units. On January 15, 2015 the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) had issued the norms for annual coal consumption in thermal power plants at 85 per cent Plant Load Factor (PLF) for different grades of coal and for different technology of power plants.
