The experience of driving in and boarding trains is set to change as Southern Railway is planning a massive redevelopment of Egmore railway station that is set to transform the swathe of land between Gandhi Irwin road and Poonamallee high road.
The Rs 800crore Amrit Bharat station scheme will add around 33 acres of land that is currently under-utilised and is either left vacant or have railway buildings that are not meant for passengers. Two new station buildings, two six-floor multi-level parking lots and a pick-up and drop area will come up.
