New Delhi: The highways ministry could soon take up with the home ministry the issue of allowing interstate movement of migrant labourers who want to return to work, officials said.
With the government allowing construction activity to resume amid the continuing nationwide lockdown, work on highway projects has restarted but labour availability issues remain across several sites.
“We may take this issue up with the Ministry of Home Affairs, where the government allows interstate movement of labourers so those who want to come back can do so,” a senior official told ET. “Some projects are working with 10-40% labourers, while others may be working at 90% capacity. It varies from site to site.”
