NEW DELHI: Pitching for leveraging the potential of science and technology in rural development, PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a new scheme to train members of 15,000 women’s self-help groups (SHGs) in the use of drones in the farm sector, and said his government was working with the aim of creating 2 crore ‘lakhpati didis’ in villages.
In his Independence Day address, he said “Drone ki Udaan” will be carried out by these women’s SHGs. Observing that 10 crore women were already associated with women’s SHGs, the PM said, “If you go to a village with women’s self-help groups, you will find bank didis, Anganwadi didis and didis who distribute medicines.
