The central railway Pune division (CPRD) will be using drone technology to map the areas prone to landslides in a 20 kilometre stretch in the Kandala ghat section between Pune and Mumbai railway track.
“In the entire stretch of the Khandala Ghat, especially near the monkey hill area, there are spots prone to landslides especially during the rainy season. This leads to delay in the train schedule. At times, the tracks are completely blocked,” said a senior railway official from the Pune Divisional Railway Manager’s office, on the condition of anonymity.
The official revealed that it is for these reason that the department has decided to use the drone technology to map critical areas.
