BENGALURU: By mid-2023, Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will be fully operational with domestic and international flights, as many airlines, including AirAsia, Air India and Emirates, will be switching to the new terminal. On Sunday, T2 saw its first flight take off as domestic carrier Star Air flew 40 passengers to Kalaburagi.
The 2,55,645sqm Phase 1 of T2, which has a capacity to cater to 25 million passengers annually, was officially unveiled by PM Narendra Modi on November 11, 2022. But flight operations from the terminal were put on hold as construction work progressed into January.
T2 was initially slated to be inaugurated in early 2021 but the Covid-19 crisis derailed construction activity.
