As India’s power demand will double by 2040, coal is here to stay for the next few decades, said Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi in Mumbai today, speaking at the Investors’ Conclave on Commercial Coal Mine Auction & Opportunities in the Mining Sector.
“Our requirement for coal is increasing, our total dispatch in 2013-14 was 572 million tons, last year it was 817 million tons, this year it will be 900 million tons,” Joshi said, adding that despite this, domestic production will not be able to fulfill full coal demand”.
