NEW DELHI: The average aggregate transmission and distribution (AT&C) losses – an euphemism for loss due to power theft and distribution inefficiency – has marginally reduced to 19% in the nine months of 2018-19 from 19.5% in the year-ago period due to UDAY, the ambitious Central scheme for resuscitating state distribution utilities.
A Niti Ayog presentation on the two-and-a-half years of UDAY shows billing by Discoms rising 8% to 601,822 million units (MUs) during this period against 556,698 MUs in the previous corresponding period. In term of efficiency too Discoms billed 84.9% of power supplied in the nine months, up from 84.6% a year ago. Collection efficiency too improved to 95.3% during this period from 95.1% a year ago.
