The much awaited opening of the second runway at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) did not take place on Thursday.
The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) were denied approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to make the runway operational.
BIAL said that regulatory paperwork is underway and once it gets the approvals would begin flight operations. “Regulatory paperwork is under way for the South Runway and associated infrastructure at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru with the first flight is expected to operate from the South Runway as soon as the approvals are received,” said a BIAL Spokesperson.
The slope on the sides of the runway is said to be a bone of contention for the denial of approvals by the regulatory authorities.
