NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended the flying licences of two pilots of AirAsia India Pvt Ltd (AAIPL) for a ground mishap at the Bagdogra airport this February. The Airbus A320 (VT-ATB) was lining up to operate to Bengaluru as I5-2393 when the left wing sharklet got damaged while the crew was executing a 180 degree turn on the runway.
A probe into this February 15, 2019 mishap showed that the crew “violated laid down procedures” and initiated 180 degrees turn from the runway during backtracking and damaged the aircraft’s left side wing sharklet. Based on this probe finding, the regulator issued a showcase to both the captains operating the aircraft and sought their reply within 15 days.
