MUMBAI: An IndiGo A320 aircraft bound for Jaipur was taxing toward the Mumbai airport runway when its upturned wingtip hit a much larger A330 aircraft that was on an adjacent taxiway. The left-hand side wing’s upturned portion sheared off and fell onto the tarmac.
Pilots felt the aircraft shake even as they kept their eyes peeled to the taxiway as the aircraft continued to taxi ahead. On Wednesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released the investigation report on the incident which occurred on November 30, 2016.
The report states an alert passenger (who was awake at 5.30 am) informed flight attendants. They called up the pilot and the aircraft was turned back to the parking bay.
