NEW DELHI: In a first, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved a Singapore-based approved training organisation (ATO) to train pilots of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners that Vistara will begin getting from February 2020. The ATO will train Vistara’s pilots as per the DGCA certification process and enable them to fly the Indian carrier’s Dreamliners without any delay.
“Vistara is likely to start getting the B787-9 from February 2020. At present, pilot training facility for this type of aircraft is only available with Air India but they don’t have spare capacity to train pilots of other airlines in their ATO for B787. Setting up their own simulator and other required pilot-training facility for this type of aircraft will take about 2-3 years. Our first of its kind approval for the Singapore-based ATO will facilitate the induction of aircraft by Vistara,” said a senior DGCA official.
Vistara had last July placed a firm order for six Boeing 787-9, and has an option for ordering four more Dreamliners.
