NEW DELHI: Haphazard construction of the Delhi-Saharanpur highway on the Pusta Road stretch between Lalita Park and Kailash Nagar in East Delhi has triggered heavy traffic congestion and raised the spectre of air pollution as winter approaches.
The Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun highway is a 210-km road being built to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to about two-and-a-half hours. The highway is expected to be done by next March and will make it easier for Delhi residents to travel to Haridwar. Delhi has a 14.5-km stretch of the highway.
In a spot check on Friday, TOI found that there were mounds of exposed earth near the Kailash Nagar intersection. Due to the construction work, iron rods, concrete slabs, boulders and mounds of earth had been dug up.
