The first tunnel breakthrough in the Delhi leg of the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) in the National Capital Region was achieved Saturday. Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Sudarshan 4.1 made the breakthrough at the tunnel retrieval shaft constructed in Khichdipur, officials said.
Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, initiated the breakthrough in the presence of Vinay Kumar Singh, MD of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). At around 3 km in length, this RRTS tunnel is the longest tunnel in Delhi made by any TBM, officials said.
The machine was lowered at the Anand Vihar launching shaft in January 2022 for the construction of RRTS tunnels between Anand Vihar and Khichdipur.
