Union petroleum and natural gas ministry allocates Public Distribution System (PDS) kerosene to states for cooking and lighting on quarterly basis. The ministry has also issued an order in August 2012 whereby each state could draw an allocation of one month’s quota of kerosene at non-subsidized rates during each financial year, for their special needs. States can seek further additional allocation of non-subsidized kerosene from the ministry after exhausting this one month’s quota.
