Contractors who have been engaged in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and left the road works halfway would be blacklisted, said Rural Development Minister Susanta Singh in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a query by BJD member Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the Minister informed the House that action would be taken against the contractors involved in poor road works or leaving the works midway.
The Centre has sanctioned funds for road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in 16,241 villages of the State whereas 17,079 villages lack proper road connectivity, the Minister stated.
Raising the issue of half-constructed roads in villages, Nayak had alleged that many contractors hired for the PMGSY are taking up projects of other departments without completing the road projects. He demanded that the State government blacklist such contractors.
