MUMBAI: Western Railway (WR) has decided to levy a Rs 4 crore penalty on a Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) contractor whose work damaged signalling cables at Virar, leading to a significant disruption in train services on July 28.
WR’s chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said, “We have decided to recover charges for the damage caused to the cable by the MRVC contractor.” Meanwhile, MRVC chairman and managing director S C Gupta said no penalty has been imposed. Another MRVC official said there were some misunderstandings which have been cleared.
A meeting was held between WR and MRVC on this issue on Wednesday.
