The Supreme Court said Tuesday that it will hear the contempt of court case involving fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya on January 18, 2022, as the Centre persists in its attempts to extradite the fugitive businessman to India.
If Mallya, who resides in United Kingdom, is not present before the Court on that day for any reason, it will hear the counsel on his behalf, Live Law reported.
Observing that the apex court has waited “sufficiently long”, a bench headed by Justice U U Lalit said, “We can’t be waiting any longer now”.
The bench noted that Mallya was held guilty of contempt in 2017.
