The government has successfully auctioned 19 coal mines out of 38 mines that were put on auction from which it along with state governments can expect to get over Rs 1 lakh crore in revenue share offered by private companies winning the contract. This is besides the green cess and other levies applicable on the mining and sale of coal, which too would be a substantial amount. Overall, the mining may lead to total revenue generation of around Rs 20,000 crore per year and capex of over Rs 30,000 crore (@Rs 150 crore per million tonnes per annum for peak rated capacity, including evacuation) over next five years.
