MUMBAI: The BMC’s coastal road department has received the go-ahead to compensate 520 fishermen of the 1,343 affected by the ongoing coastal road works so far.
Civic officers said an allocation of Rs 134 crore from the coastal road budget of Rs 12,721 has been made for the fishermen affected during the construction period between 2018 and 2024. However, the compensation will be rolled out to only those certified by the department of fisheries.
It was in November 2021, much after coastal road works began in 2018, that the BMC decided to compensate Worli fishermen following protests.
