NEW DELHI: State-run Coal India has raised fuel supply to non-power consumers by more than 12% to knock off 44% of backlog since April.
CIL has been able to focus on non-power industries such as cement and captive power plants because of its success in building up comfortable stockpile at power plants.
CIL supplied 34 million tonnes of coal to non-power sector in the April-June period, up from 30 million tonnes in the previous corresponding period.
Higher supplies have reduced the backlog of non-power sector to 2,300 rakes from 5,100 rakes in April. Each rake carries 3,800 tonnes of coal.
Power stations currently have a stockpile of over 25 mt of coal stock, while stocks at mines stand at 32 mt of coal. “There is sufficient coal in the system. Power plants also have comfortable stock position. This gives us the leeway to clear all arrear rakes to non-power consumers in near future,” a senior CIL official said.
