Coal stocks at power plants are beginning to improve with the monsoon retreating and the government’s focus will now be on meeting the demand of more than 200 GW expected next summer, power and renewable energy minister RK Singh told ET in an interview. India will not shy away from building more coal-based power plants if needed for energy security, he said.
“We have an average four days’ coal stock-I won’t call it a crisis,” the minister said. “It is a tight situation and we have to keep a watch. Hopefully, we will not be in a crisis because we are meeting whatever demand is coming.”
