Even after writing eleven letters, Electrosteel Castings Ltd, a Kolkata based mining company is still waiting for approval from the coal ministry for the disposal of the washery rejects, inferior ungraded coal, slurry, jharna, carbonaceous shale from their Parbatpur coal block. An Under Secretary in the coal ministry acted on their last letter dated 29.10.2014 as late as 16.12.2014 (see box), that too forwarding it to Coal Controller for their recommendations. Such delays not only have negative impact on the business but can also cause environmental impacts. Waste lying in the open can even lead to massive fire.
