It is remarkable efforts by the coal ministry officials. Unlike 2G spectrum auction where the telecom department had to approach the Supreme Court several times seeking extensions of deadline for conducting spectrum auction, the coal ministry has done it just before the original deadline. Not only that, so far the coal auction has fetched handsome amount of over Rs 2 lakh crore, that too from just 33 coal mines that were put to auction out of the 214 coal mines cancelled by the Supreme Court.
