India, the world’s second-largest coal consumer behind China, opened up coal mining to the private sector companies for the first time in 2020. Since then, the coal mine auctions has become a routine. 14th Tranche of auctions under Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act and 4th Tranche under Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act was launched by the coal ministry on December 16, 2021. The last date of submission of technical bid was February 28, 2022.
