As per a report from the office of coal controller (CCO), during Apr-Nov 2015, the import of coal was 127.52 MT as compared to 137.61 MT in the corresponding period of 2014-15 showing a fall of 7.3 per cent. This slowdown in import is largely due to the fact that coal production by Coal India Ltd registered a growth of 8.8 pc during Apr-Nov 2015 over the same period in the previous year. The country-wise import of coal during the last five years is given in table. The table shows that India continues to be heavily dependent on supplies from Indonesia, Australia and South Africa.
