Coal based power plants

Coal based Budge Budge thermal power station located at Achipur near Budge Budge town in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, operated by the CESC Ltd, with an installed capacity of 750 MW (3×250 MW) that became fully operational in 1997, is the best environmentally TPS operating in India. And the worst performance is by 840 MW coal based thermal power plant operated by Jharkhand State Electricity Board in Patratu in Ramgarh district in Jharkhand. It consists of ten units: six Russian-built units commissioned 1966-1972 (30-90 MW each) and four India-built units (110 MW each). The plant is currently working at an efficiency of 5 per cent. These are the findings of Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), by a leading NGO working in the environment sector.
