CIL Production

Though the government is expecting Coal India Ltd (CIL)’s performance to improve substantially every year aiming a target of 1 billion tonne coal production by 2020, but it has to watch out for two under-performing companies – South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) and Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL). Compared to the targets, their June 2015 production performance is just 89 pc and 85 pc, respectively. Also, overall, compared to full year production of the previous financial year (2014-15), CIL’s performance in the first quarter of the current financial year is just 24.55 pc.

In 2014-15, CIL had recorded 7 pc rise in production at 494 mn tonnes (mt), meeting about 97 pc of its output target of 507 mt. Meanwhile, the government has set the output target for CIL at 550 mt for current financial year, which means about 60 mt more production in the current financial year.
