NEW DELHI: The Indian aviation regulator has ordered “enhanced surveillance” of the close to 100 Boeing 737s in the fleets of Indian carriers after a China Eastern B737-800 with 132 people on board crashed in China’s Guangxi on Monday afternoon.
In India, SpiceJet use B737s, including its Max variant. Other airlines including Air India Express and Vistara have the earlier gen B737s (not the Max) in their fleets.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) chief Arun Kumar told TOI: “We take flight safety very seriously and are closely studying the situation. In the interim, we are focussing on enhanced surveillance of our 737 fleet. We are deploying teams to monitor flight procedures, air worthiness and operations.”
