CHENNAI: Earlier this month, electricity minister V Senthilbalaji read out a long list of maintenance work and repair activities carried out by Tangedco workers as part of the monsoon preparedness.
However, residents in various pockets of the city have been waking up to the power cuts in the wee hours for over a week and the reason cited by Tangedco is disturbance caused to the overhead lines or the disconnection to prevent untoward incidents.
The official Twitter handle of Tangedco is flooded with complaints of power cuts, that too at odd hours. While the city received moderate rains in different parts of the city on Tuesday night, Pulianthope residents were left in the lurch as the power supply was stopped from 2 am. Another consumer complained that there was no power supply in Sembium and Perambur. In Triplicane too, power supply was disturbed for hours before the sunrise.
