CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has saved 26 trees including a few deep-rooted indigenous species at Panagal Park in T Nagar by making minor changes to the design of the underground phase-2 metro station.
This effort comes after metro rail faced flak for cutting more than 200 trees in the 8.8acre Thiru vi ka Park at Shenoy Nagar for building an underground retail space along with the metro station.
At T Nagar, metro rail is building Panagal Park underground metro station, a portion of which is planned under the park, which is the only green space in the commercial hub in the city. The metro station is part of corridor-4 from Lighthouse to Poonamallee bypass. The 118.9km phase-2 is expected to be ready by 2025-26.
