CHENNAI: Soon, motorists reaching LB Road at Adyar may have to cross a steel bridge as Chennai Metro Rail Limited plans to pull down an arm of the Adyar flyover and replace it with the bridge temporarily for smooth flow of vehicles.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will build twin tunnels and the underground Adyar junction metro station near Adyar signal as part of its 118.9km phase-2 project which is expected to be completed by 2026.
A CMRL official said one arm of the flyover which links Adyar with Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur will be razed and the foundation pillars removed as twin tunnels will cross perpendicular to it. The underground metro station is part of 45.8km corridor-3 from Madhavaram to Siruseri Sipcot.
