CHENNAI: A Chennai-London British Airways flight with around 200 passengers onboard made an emergency landing in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday following a technical snag. Passengers had to wait for around nine hours at the terminal till another plane was brought by the airline to take them to London.
The unscheduled stop raised concerns among relatives of passengers as they were not able to reach them, forcing some of them to tweet to the airline. In response to a tweet, the airline said the plane was diverted.
The flight, scheduled for 5.30am, departed from Chennai after a delay of one and a half hours. It was diverted after flying for around eight hours.
The B787 Dreamliner plane landed in Istanbul around 3.30pm (Indian time). The plane was grounded, and passengers were moved to the terminal.
