CHENNAI: The Airports Authority of India plans to auction three ATR-72 planes that lie abandoned at Chennai airport as scrap if they are not removed before next weekend. The planes belong to the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines.
The move comes as there has been no response to the two eviction orders issued to remove the aircraft by February 21. Now, a public notice has been issued, ordering the current owners to remove the planes.
The planes were abandoned after there was a dispute over non-payment of dues to the airport and also to the lessor and have remained parked in remote bays.
