CHENNAI: The monsoon is a mere month away and the city airport is readying to prevent strong winds and rain from disrupting flights and preventing flooding of runways and taxiways.
A series of steps are being taken following discussions at a meeting held by the state government with the airport last week to prepare for the monsoon, said a senior official of AAI.
Airport authorities have begun desilting of storm water drains in neighbourhoods adjacent to the airport, while the desilting of Adyar river near the second runway bridge is nearing completion.
A senior official of AAI said that low lying areas near the runways have been levelled, foliage in the basic strip of runways and taxiways have been trimmed.
