City Beautiful has been rated the best among UTs in solar power installation and was awarded during a function organised by the Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of States (AREAS), formed by the Union ministry of new and renewable energy, on its 8th Foundation Day Ceremony at Cochin, Kerala.
Chandigarh renewable energy, science & technology promotion society (CREST) was also awarded for achieving the second highest renewable energy capacity as on March 31. They were also awarded for achieving the second highest solar power capacity addition between 2021-22 and for achieving second highest numbers of solar streetlights installed as of March 31.
Under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, CREST has set a target of 75MWp to be achieved by August 15, 2023. Chandigarh is well ahead in terms of achievement with grid-tied rooftop solar plants having an aggregate capacity of 50.588 MWp, already been installed and commissioned at 4,200 sites.
