Activists say some of the best roads are made with asphalt; HC pans civic chiefs across metropolitan region for potholes, asks why they should not face contempt proceedings
MUMBAI: The Bombay high court (HC) recently slammed commissioners of local municipal bodies across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) over pothole-ridden roads and summoned them to ask why they should not face contempt proceedings.
Chief minister Eknath Shinde and the BMC have said cement concrete (CC) roads will make Mumbai potholes free. CM Shinde has repeatedly said Mumbai will become pothole free in two years as CC roads are being constructed. In January this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated road works worth Rs 6,080 crore for concretising close to 400km of roads across the city.
