The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked Gunupati Venkata Krishna Reddy, the chairman of the GVK Group and his son GV Sanjay Reddy, managing director of Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) among others for cheating (420), forgery (467), forgery for purpose of cheating (468), knowingly using forged documents as genuine (471), under Indian Penal Code (IPC). Unknown officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI) have also been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI in its June 27, 2020 FIR has said that MIAL entered into fake contracts with nine private companies and siphoned away Rs 310 crore from the joint venture company in which the government has 26 per cent stake through AAI. The CBI believes that there are more such fake contracts.
