NEW DELHI: Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has directed captive thermal power plants (CTPP) to start co-firing stubble or biomass pellets with coal.
An order by CAQM on Monday stated that for effective utilisation of agricultural residue as a resource, it has directed all CTPPs in the region to initiate immediate steps to co-fire biomass-based pellets with focus on paddy straw utilisation, along with coal through a continuous and uninterrupted supply chain targeting at least 5% co-firing of biomass pellets latest by September 30 and at least 10% co-firing by December 31, 2023.
